SHORELINE RESILIENCE & STORMWATER DRAINAGE

Winthrop is a proud coastal community, and with that comes the responsibility of protecting our shoreline and infrastructure from the growing threats of storms, flooding, and rising tides. Seashore resiliency is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. That’s why we’ve made it a top priority to invest in meaningful storm drainage repairs and long-term planning. I have committed fully to the design, engineering, and eventual completion of critical drainage improvements in the Girdlestone Road, Tileston Road, and Pico Avenue areas—neighborhoods that have faced repeated flooding challenges for far too long.

These projects are not just about fixing outdated infrastructure; they’re about protecting homes, improving quality of life, and ensuring public safety. Through collaboration with engineers and environmental experts, we’re laying the groundwork for solutions that are sustainable and effective. These upgrades will reduce flooding during severe weather events and improve overall stormwater management in some of the town’s most vulnerable areas.

While those projects are moving forward with urgency, we also recognize that Morton Street presents a more complex challenge. This area will require more in-depth analysis and the careful selection of the best long-term solution. Though the work will take time, I am fully committed to seeing it through, and to making sure Morton Street residents know their concerns are being heard and addressed with seriousness and care.

Beyond drainage, our broader seashore resiliency efforts remain front and center. Several seawall locations throughout Winthrop are showing signs of age and deterioration, and we will not let these needs fall to the wayside. Whether it's repairing aging structures or planning enhancements to withstand future coastal impacts, our focus is on long-term strength and preparedness.

Winthrop’s identity is rooted in its connection to the sea, and protecting our shoreline is essential to protecting our future. These infrastructure projects are just the beginning—we are committed to taking action today that will safeguard our community for generations to come.
