EDUCATION

Winthrop Public Schools serve just over 2,000 students, offering a close-knit and supportive environment where every child has the opportunity to grow. Over the past 25 years, thanks to the vision and commitment of our community, we have built three modern school buildings—clear evidence of the town’s belief in the power of public education. These facilities have become the foundation for a thriving academic and extracurricular experience for our students.

Under the leadership of Superintendent Lisa Howard, Winthrop’s school system has remained highly competitive—not just academically, but culturally and athletically as well. Her dedication, along with the hard work of our remarkable educators, has helped foster an environment where students are challenged, supported, and celebrated. It’s a system built not only on achievement but also on values like inclusivity, resilience, and community spirit.

Just a few months ago, the residents of Winthrop once again demonstrated their unwavering support by passing a critical override. This act of generosity ensures we can maintain the high standards our schools have nurtured over the years. It's a powerful reminder that our town understands the importance of investing in the future—our children.

Looking ahead, I want to keep building on this momentum. I’m committed to expanding our language offerings, reviving our beloved band program, and continuing to support every student—from our youngest learners to those preparing for life beyond graduation. As it proudly says on the side of the Arthur T. Cummings School, “The destiny of our future depends on our youth.” Let’s keep doing right by them.
